Retirement Age Hike 2025: Government Confirms No Change For Central Employees

The Central Government of India has made an official statement by April 2025 that it has no intentions to change the retirement age of the employees working in central government as per all the rumors and the noise regarding its possible announcement on changing the retirement age policy.

Government’s Official Stand

Union Minister of State for Personnel, Dr. Jitendra Singh: The minister, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha, stated that “no proposal to change the retirement age of government employees is under consideration of the government”. He also added that the government tampoco has applied such a policy in case of the vacancies created because of a retirement of an employee.

Debunking Misinformation

A post that went viral on social media in November 2024 claimed that the retirement age of a central government employee is going to be increased from 60 to 62 years, starting from April 1, 2025. The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has refuted the news saying that no such decision has been taken, calling the notice posted in circulation fake.

State-Level Autonomy

By and large, though there stands a retirement age of 60 years at the center, it must be pointed out that each state has its own policy to determine its retirement age. The result is that some states are looking into revising policies in relation to financial and workforce needs.

Conclusion

The central government’s position is unmistakable in this regard: currently, there are no plans to amend the retirement age for employees. Workers and members of the public are urged to avoid relying on unverified claims that are being passed around on social media and instead to look towards official communications to gain accurate information.
